Brooke Goes to ‘Seeing Double’

From glamours to unpredictable…the true take of a Measure Magazine shoot from the perspective of journalist Brooke Mahoney.

An energetic spirit fit with peppy pop music and smiles from student stylists and models alike filled the studio space. A calm comradely permitted the perfect scene for a full-scale photoshoot in the middle of the Maker Lab. 

High-top desks and work tables turned into hair and makeup stations filled with rhinestones and curling wands, meanwhile, students worked on cutting, and pressing, and sketching in the back. Senior designers dressed their models or just popped in with an encouraging ‘hello’ while they paraded Steel Plant to take a quick work break.  

The scene was that of collaboration, creation, design, & play, as prospective students peered through the Maker lab windows as their tours commenced. Venture through the doors and you’ll see what those onlookers cannot: the true essence of duality.  Flashing lights gaze upon models in contrasting looks. 

Allow the eye to follow down the body: slicked-back blonde hair, crisp forest green eyeshadow, a white lace dress adorned with soft orange crochet embellishments. She leans her head gently against her duo counterpart: a wavey brown hair, bronzed and amber eyeshadow, a forest and leaf print jumpsuit and jacket.

The shot continued on a rollercoaster of bright colors and tendrils of flower sleeves: emergency models, last-minute makeup changes… all to be met with color, creative – wonderful –  juxtaposition. Against a mere grey background, color shone through.
