The Fashion Magazine at Marist College. Measure is created through the Marist Fashion Program’s magazine production class. The class is then broken down into three respective committees: Profiles, Trends, and Social Media. Under the guidance of our Academic Advisor Richard Scott French, we have created a home for Fashion creatives, of all kinds.

Each semester we dedicate ourselves to reimagining the future of Measure under the pillars of; authenticity, empowerment, individualism, vitality, and sustainability. We are looking forward to sharing our vision with the world.

And we will continue to ask ourselves… Do we measure up?

MEET THE COMMITTEES

Olyvia Young - Editor-in-Chief

Hello, hello! I am back for a second year as director, and this time as the Editor-in-Chief. I am beyond proud and excited to be leading this amazing group of creatives, in giving Measure a new life and energy. In this role it is my job to lead story building, plan out editorial/content calendars, and edit pieces before publishing. I also work alongside Professor French in the planning and overall running of the class, day-to-day. I am so excited for the world to get to know this new Measure, and finally see if We Measure Up.

Interested in joining Measure for Spring 2025?

Here’s what you can expect:

Each spring, we focus on our traditional printed edition. In order to bring our vision to life, we divide into six different teams: Fashion, Editorial, Art & Layout, Social Media, Branding, and Digital Edition. While these are our traditional teams…they might look a little different this coming semester (stay tuned).

Here’s a little bit about the responsibilities of each team…

Fashion

The Fashion team is responsible for the conceptualization and execution of all fashion photoshoots that are featured in Measure Magazine. Members of the Fashion team come up with photoshoot concepts, scout models and photographers as well as hair and makeup for the editorial. The Fashion team provides shoes, props and any other accessories that are needed to complete the intended vision. This team works closely with the senior designers to assign one of their looks to a photoshoot and communicates with them frequently regarding how to dress their models, when to pick up their garments, etc. The director creates a schedule for when and where each shoot will take place and once they are finished, the team selects the images to be put into the magazine.

Art & Layout

The Layout Team is responsible for the layout and the art design of the magazine. The team consists of members who are well versed in the Adobe Suite, specifically in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Members of the Layout Team help their director place the Photoshoots and articles in a cohesive and eye-catching manner. The Layout Team plays a vital role in bringing the final copy of Measure to life and works closely with the printer to coordinate production and pick up for launch.

Branding

The Branding and Marketing team is responsible for creatively conveying the theme of this year’s edition of Measure Magazine. They achieve this through a combination of events and social media outreach, aimed at increasing awareness of the magazine in collaboration with the Silver Needle Runway. Working closely with the Social Media team, they strive to enhance community engagement, expand the audience, manage public perception, and boost web traffic. In every event, post, and print copy, they meticulously craft the character of Measure Magazine.

Editorial

The Editorial team oversees all written content that is created and featured in print and digital versions of Measure. Members of the Editorial team curate content that not only fit the theme of the issue but also allows students to express themselves within their work. Paying Attention to establishing the voice for the magazine in countless written materials is key. The Editorial team is responsible for all student open call submissions, making sure all written content is done in AP style, creating and reviewing all copy edits for social media, as well as sending out pitch letters to potential people and businesses for interviews and feature stories.

Social Media

The social media team is responsible for promoting the magazine, creating content via social media channels, and creating the magazine's face. Instagram, TikTok, Canvas, and others are utilized. We collaborate and share ideas with other group members & teams to allow the best fit for the socials of the magazine. We also work with the branding team to create a cohesive theme on our social media and in the magazine. Additionally, knowing relevant trends on TikTok and Instagram, having experience using Canva, and being familiar with photo/video editing, specifically on Instagram/TikTok, would be helpful! If you are interested in photography, are very open-minded and creative, and love shooting content from day to day & all things social media, this is the team for you!

Digital Edition

The Digital Edition team is responsible for translating the physical magazine to the digital world. This is through a website, podcast, and promotional video. The possibilities within the position are endless and are able to grow as the digital world does. Before the magazine is fully created the Digital Edition Director must sort and conceptualize what the digital presence will be online beyond social media.
