Ding dong The door swings open, and the team comes flooding inside: makeup artists, designers, assistants, directors, models. A murmur of excitement spreads down the hallway through the kitchen and into the living room, which has now been transformed into a makeshift makeup table and a hair salon. Energy fueled by Starbucks, last-minute stitches, and an eagerness to shoot fill the house as we rearrange furniture, prop purple lights and devise a party scene.

Follow the energy down the stairs and – Click polaroids spewed across the table, with a sprinkle of glitter and a POP of sparking cider. The girls arrived dressed in vibrant colors and bold features. A cake is presented, candles are lit. The party has started.

The next two and a half hours establish a celebration of color and sound, flashing camera lights and fans blowing. The painted flowers of [name designer’s] [blue dress] the hemming detail on [name designer’s] [denim overalls], the juxtaposition on [name designer’s] [vest]. Embroidery and intricate detailing set the standard dress code for such a timely decade extravaganza.

Before we know it, the shoot winds to an end. The party has been thrown and the clean-up crew has swept in. One by one, our guest bid their adieus and file up the stairs, and out the door. The purple lights are dimmed and deconstructed. The shimmering silver backdrop is folded up and the confetti is collected. The party has returned to a studio, and the studio back to a homey finished basement. The lights are dimmed and the door is shut, but the story will always mark the turn of a decade.
