What to Wear Spring 2025

By: Claire Montague

We’ve already seen what the runway is looking like for Spring/Summer 25, but what is everyday person going to be wearing during next year's warm seasons? Yes, this is months away, but why not start thinking about it now? I personally have been giving it thought already, so I’m going to give the rest of you some ideas to generate your spring/summer wardrobe!

Patterns (Polka dots, Stripes, Plaids Oh My!)

This upcoming spring/summer 25 will be filled with patterned prints. Designers such as Conner Ives and Anna Sui hinted at this trend by incorporating polka dots, stripes, plaids, and bold patterns in their S/S 25 runway shows. Take inspiration from these collections and join the polka dot party when choosing a cute summer dress or have a striped spring and layer a striped button down over a tank-top. These patterns are a timeless classic, so it’s not surprising they will be trending next year.

Aquatic Fashion Wave

I can already picture the sparkly sequins and glittery eye makeup that are associated with a mermaid-inspired outfit. We saw the rise of this aquatic trend late this summer with Addison Rae’s “Aquamarine” and designers like Jenny Packham. Look out for sequined clothes, blue and pearly colors, seashell accessories, and sheer fabrics. This will be the perfect way to brighten up the warm seasons while channeling your inner childhood mermaid obsession.

Micro Shorts

Mini skirts had their moment in the past, but I’m forecasting that next spring/summer micro shorts will have their moment. It only makes sense for this to happen because of the mini skirt obsession. The runway has showcased many different versions of these through designers such as Coperni and Miu Miu. I can see people wearing these micro shorts paired with some colorful tights, kitten heels, or both! These will be perfect for the hot weather in the summer, as well as the tights adding a nice layer for the spring. Look out for sequined, knit, denim, and other types of micro shorts heading to stores next year.

Patterned Tights

Tights are the perfect opportunity to add a pop of color or flare to an outfit. I think next spring patterned tights will gain traction and be everywhere. Patterned tights were seen on the runways of MAXHOSA and Valentino, ranging from lace flowers to bright orange geometric designs. I can already imagine these tights being paired with skirts, dresses and the micro shorts mentioned above. It’s the perfect way to elevate a boring outfit to a fun, playful spring/summer statement. I will personally be taking part in this upcoming trend and can’t wait to see this colorful accessory on the streets.

It’s a Sporty Spring/Summer

Sportswear is always in, but the trend for spring/summer 25 will be elevated to a more chic and dainty, yet daring look. This trend will range from a feminine matching set to bold, micro versions of a tracksuit as seen in Dominnico’s S/S 25 collection. If you don’t consider yourself an athlete, the nice thing about this S/S 25 trend is that you don’t have to partake in any physical activity to enjoy these chic sporty sets. You will feel comfortable while also turning people’s heads with your trendy sports streetwear.

Lady Gaga Takeover

There have been many examples of pop culture fashion phenomenon, such as this year's Brat Summer, and last year’s Barbie Summer. I predict, and hope, next year’s pop culture takeover will be from fashion and pop icon Lady Gaga. She is releasing her seventh studio album in February, and is set to headline Coachella in April. She is known for her bold fashion choices and inspiration within the fashion world, inspiring her fanbase the “Little Monsters” to dress bold and out of the ordinary. I predict this style will take over next spring/summer with glamorous yet bizarre takes on ordinary daywear. I personally cannot wait for the Lady Gaga takeover next year.

Hopefully this trend forecast gave insight into what the fashion scene may look like next spring/summer. It’s not too early to start collecting pieces for your wardrobe, so get ready for a bold, sparkly, patterned and even sporty spring/summer season in 2025.
